The Greenbrier Restaurant: Smoky Mountain Steakhouse & Best Restaurant in Gatlinburg, Tennessee

The Greenbrier Restaurant – 370 Newman Rd, Gatlinburg, TN 37738

Nestled in the hills of the charming mountain town Gatlinburg, Tennessee,  The Greenbrier Restaurant is a cozy woodland escape away from the chaos & the crowds of downtown.  This mountaintop log cabin-style restaurant features beautiful décor and gourmet cuisine that is not to be missed.

The drive to the very seculded Greenbrier is a bit off the beaten path from downtown Gatlinburg as you wind your way uphill to their scenic mountaintop location. Although The Greenbrier is tucked away in the woods, the ten minute drive means it’s also close enough to downtown Gatlinburg that you can easily access the restaurant.

Although we visited The Greenbrier during August/September, we can imagine it would be simply amazing to dine here during the changing of the leaves in the Fall.

Plenty of free parking is available at the restaurant, but be on the lookout for bears as you enter and exit the parking lot. Our table was ready when we arrived, but we would’ve loved to sit a spell with one of their famous craft cocktails in hand (Jared – the American ’76 is TDF) in one of their rustic wooden rocking chairs while taking in the quiet surroundings prior to dinnertime.

Smoky Mountain Steakhouse

Enjoy a hearty high quality meal in a stylish log-cabin setting at The Greenbrier.

For appetizers, we really enjoyed Greenbrier’s duck confit egg rolls, and smoked grits.  However, our dry-aged bone-in-ribeye was easily one of the best steaks we’ve ever had – definitely Top 5!   We also dined on Shrimp & Lobster Scampi, Smoked Cheddar Grits & Stuffed Meatballs, all equally delicious. This was the first time we experienced smoked grits, and they have ruined all other grits for us! A few of the other restaurants we dined at in The Smokies also offered smoked grits, so if you find yourself in the area & love grits, this is a must try.

However, the standout of the meal was Greenbrier’s complimentary spoon bread served in a hot cast iron skillet as the house bread service. At first, it looked a little runny for our liking, but at first taste – it was heaven in a skillet. Similar to a sweet cornbread but the consistency of a custard of sweet oooey-gooey goodness! This was the very first time we were introduced to spoon bread, and now we can’t stop dreaming about it.

Phenominal Service

Although The Greenbrier is a bit more pricey than other restaurants in Gatlinburg, the service here was some of the best we’ve ever had at a restaurant.

Our glasses were never empty, and our server was friendly, knowledgable & attentive. During our visit, the hostess made sure every lady who visited The Greenbrier left with a beautiful fresh-cut rose.  Portions are generous, and the floor to ceiling views of the surrounding woodlands are breathtaking.

Celebrate at The Greenbrier

Looking for a spot to celebrate a special occasion while in town? The Greenbrier is it!

In our opinion, The Greenbrier would be the perfect spot to celebrate an engagement, anniversary or birthay while in town. Romantic and homey, The Greenbrier makes every meal a special occasion. In addition, Gatlinburg is the Wedding Capital of the South, after all.  We could absolutely see this restaurant hosting a number of wedding rehearsal dinners as well as small wedding receptions and don’t forget those Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties!

Walkers Union Bar & Lounge

If you can’t get a reservation during your visit, grab a seat at Walkers Union, the beautiful bar & lounge. Here, you’ll find the full cocktail and dinner menu, a massive wine collection, and a map of Great Smoky Mountain National Park on the ceiling!

Walkers Union’s House Mixologist features unique cocktails with fresh house-made ingredients, and they pride themselves on creating drinkable art. They also have the most extensive selection of bourbons and whiskeys that we saw in The Smokies.

The most popular cocktail on the menu, also said to be “Gatlinburg’s Most Famous Cocktail,” is The Dylan Old Fashion with flaming pecan smoke and bourbon with a fantastic table-side presentation. These cocktails were coming out left and right during our dinner, but we did not order The Dylan.

Our meal at The Greenbrier was absolutely incredible & should be added to any Gatlinburg itinerary.  Fabulous food, delicious drinks & a dining experience we’ll never forget! A very big THANK YOU to every one of our followers on Instagram who recommended this beautiful spot that we never would’ve found otherwise!
