Originally developed as a housing village for miners during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush in the mid-1800’s, Breckenridge is located in the adventure-filled state of Colorado.  There are plenty of ski villages throughout the State, but none quite like “Breck” as its fans refer to it.

The International Snow Sculpture Championships occur each January in Breckenridge, and this is one of our favorite times of year to visit Breck.  Artists travel from areas across the globe to create incredible sculptures from massive blocks of snow, and these aren’t just any sculptures.  If you’re lucky enough to visit Breck during the festival, we highly recommend you take some time to watch as blocks of snow transition into true works of art.

During the summer months there are plenty of outdoor activities to give you a much needed adrenaline rush.  From hiking to fly-fishing, mountain biking and boating this town famous for being covered in snow turns into a lush wildflower paradise.  Bike from Breckenridge to Frisco on the Peaks trail, or take all of Breck in on the BreckConnect Gondola all the way to the base of Peak 8.  After you have seen it all on the gondola, take in zip lining and jeep tours which are all available at the Peak 8 summer fun park.

Visiting Breckenridge at any time of year is always an option if you’re looking to be pampered at one of the many spas or salons.  Get your blood flowing with a massage, facial, aromatherapy, or hot stone treatment at 9,600 feet above sea level.  The town’s laid back lifestyle makes it easy for you to kick back and relax, and just enjoy the view.

Tips:

If your visiting for skiing and riding, then do stay in a ski-in/shuttle-out resort.  One of our favorites for groups or families are the Sawmill Creek Condominiums located conveniently off Breck’s longest trail, Four O’Clock Run.  At Sawmill you can walk or take the bus to enjoy all of Breck’s best shopping and dining.

Grab a brew, enjoy the food, and views mountainside at Breck’s one and only brewpub, Breckenridge Brewery & Pub located downtown.  The Brewery has become a regular stop on our annual trips, and it offers both indoor and outdoor seating.  For seating at the bar, arrive early!

Lose yourself in the streets of downtown Breck’s shops where you will find some of the most beautiful paintings by local artists.
